Drawing On Light
• Mixed-media installation and Performance
• Black wall: 16 x 12 ft - inside materials have variable dimensions
• In an enclosed geometric space in the corner of the gallery, light is projected through a single glass globe, creating plays of light and shadow in the interior surfaces of the structure. The shadow inside the globe takes a physical form, resembling an eye that seems to look back at the spectator. The sheer shadow of the sphere on the wall behind also draws an outline of an eye.
Inside the corner, a solitary experience is offered to a single member of the audience at a time. There is a movable handle where the source of light is placed with a small mirror. When the performer bends to the grip, they can find their own eyes in the mirror of the handle.
The artist uses light and shadow to question conceptions of perceived truths creating a space for viewers to explore the interrelationship between shadows and physical objects, encouraging them to examine the fluidity and rigidity of their own beliefs.
